The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is going to have to dip into its reserves next year to balance its budget.
The Board approved the 2011-2012 spending estimates at Tuesday night’s open meeting.
Superintendent of Business Dean Carrie says they are looking at an overall shortfall next year of about $1.5-million.
Total spending this year will be $84.7-million, which is down from the $86.7-million spent last year.
Carrie says they hope to be able to balance their books within 3-years.
The Ministry of Education says it will allow the Board to access funds from reserves to cover the deficit.
Declining enrollment and reduced Provincial funding are both playing a factor in the shortfall.
