Forest fire season in Northwestern Ontario officially starts today (Friday), but it will be a quiet start.
Ministry of Natural Resources Spokesperson Debbie MacLean says crews are going back to work in early April and water bombers will be put into use in mid-April.
MacLean says with the amount of snow on the ground and a wet and chilly forecast for April, crews should have no trouble settling in.
Still, she stresses the MNR will be ready in the event of an early fire.
She notes the average number of fires in the area has dropped in the past few years.
