Firefly Launches Mental Health Wellness Challenge

This is Children Mental Health Week across Northwestern Ontario, and Firefly is raising awareness.
Board Chair Jackie Mitchell says 1 in 5 children have a mental health issue, but there are plenty of ways for people to get involved.
However, she says that even with so many programs available, 1 in 6 people with mental health issues aren’t seeking the help they need.
Families are encouraged to participate in the Mental Health Wellness Challenge which includes:
– sitting together for a family meal every day
– go for a walk with your children
– spend an appreciative text message to your child
– watch a movie together
– plan and prepare a nutritious after school snack and family meal
– hug your children every day
– anonymously help a family in need
– have a family game night
– listen to your child’s favourite music
– have a family picnic
– go for a bike ride with your children
– draw a family picture or sing a family song
– read a book together
– look at family pictures and photo albums
– have a bonfire
– fly a kite
– go puddle jumping
– help clean up your community
– dance

Firefly is encouraging any families to send pictures to lkutney@fireflynw.ca
