First Nations inspired fundraising and communities from the Far North are supporting a walkathon to raise money for a new CT Scan Unit at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
The walks will start in Red Lake and Thunder Bay in October, with a final celebration planned for Dryden on October 25th.
Gus Kropf and Chuck Schmitt were guests on the CKDR Morning Show Thursday to promote the fundraising and awareness initiative.
Kropf says the event is also meant to showcase First Nations involvement and leadership skills in non-Indigenous communities.
The walks are being organized by Tim Barkman of Sachigo Lake First Nation, a long time advocate for health care in this region.
Schmitt says he’s thankful for the fundraiser, noting it showcases the strong relationship the hospital has with area First Nations.
