First Nations Students Get A Boost

The Directors of Education for the Seven Generations Education Institute and the Rainy River District School Board have combined efforts to help First Nations students in Northwestern Ontario.
The Ministry of Education and the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs have approved a proposal launched by Delbert Horton of Seven Generations and Warren Hoshizaki of the Rainy River Board.
A 40-thousand dollar grant will enable the two groups to address First Nations student achievement in an area from Marathon to the Manitoba border including the Kenora and Rainy River Districts.
Horton says in the long run, the grant will help improve educational opportunities for native students.
