More promises from Canada’s Indigenous and Northern Affairs Minister.
Carolyn Bennett has announced that First Nations will have more control of their financial resources on a year to year basis.
Bennett says aboriginal communities will be able to carry forward funds, giving them more flexibility, independence and ability to better plan and carry out projects.
Bennett has also unveiled plans to work with First Nations on an essential service funding plan relating to fire and emergency services.
She calls the changes an important first step towards building stronger First Nations communities.
