The Ford government is making its plan to scrap the Cap and Trade Carbon Tax program official by introducing legislation to accomplish their goal.
Environment, Conservation and Parks Minister Rod Phillips calls it a job killing tax that also forces low and middle income families to pay more.
Phillips claims the average family will save roughly $260 a year as a result of the move.
He adds it will help in a government goal to reduce gas prices by 10 cents a litre.
Phillips is confident there won’t be a great deal of push back from businesses over the plan.
He notes the government will be paying up to $5-million in compensation to businesses affected by the decision to scrap Cap and Trade.
Phillips defends the action by suggesting it doesn’t mean the Ford government is refusing to deal with the issue of climate change.
Today, I presented my first piece of legislation. Ontario’s carbon tax era is over! Promise made and a promise kept. #forthepeople pic.twitter.com/EP2aFqlWPl
