Five Area First Nations Reporting COVID-19

Some concerning news on the COVID-19 front in first nation communities.

Dr. John Guilfoyle is with the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority and he is reporting eight new cases.

-3 new cases in Webequie. All are asymptomatic. Case and contact management is in place and the three individuals are doing well and in isolation
-2 case in Pikangikum. Case management and contact tracing is taking place
-1 case in Polar Hill. Under investigation
-1 case in Frenchman’s Head. Person is doing well and is safely isolating in the community
-1 case in Nibinamik. External worker who had left the community

Dr. Guilfoyle says preliminary investigations suggest that six of the seven cases are related to travel outside of the communities.

He is urging people to get the vaccine when it becomes available.
