Flood of 2002 Remembered

The Province is recognizing some 50 Regional Ministry of Transportation workers who helped clean up after the ‘rainfall of the century’ in June 2002.
Torrential rains covered 15,000 sq/km of Sunset Country, washing out roads, the rail system and hydro lines.
The storm also flooded 10 Municipalities and caused hardship to some 250,000 residents.
MTO Regional Director Larry Lambert says his crew worked quickly to get things back to normal.
4 of the men instrumental in the cleanup will accept an award on behalf of the Ministry at a ceremony tonight.
In some communities, over 400 mm of rain fell in less than 48 hours.
