Fontaine-AFN-Deal

The Assembly of First Nations is hoping that it can strike a deal with the federal government for residential school survivors, before the next election.

National Chief Phil Fontaine is in Kenora today to discuss the latest proposal which is now before the federal cabinet.

He’s worried that timing of a non-confidence vote could scuttle any potential deal.

N002 Q: …CONFIDENCE VOTE. (16 SECS.)

Fontaine says the deal contains a lump sum payment of 10 thousand dollars for the aproximately 85 thousand surviving resident school students, as well as a formal apology from the Prime Minister.
