The number of people using food banks in Canada remains near record highs, two years after the end of the last recession.
Dryden Food Manager Keith Grant says the local picture doesn’t reflect a report that National usage has skyrocketed by 26% since 2008.
Grant notes numbers have leveled off after a slow, steady increase.
However, Grant says donations have dropped in recent years.
The Food Banks Canada study shows during one snapshot month in 2011, more than 850,000 people relied on food hand-outs.
