Forest Fire Hazard Moderate To High

The forest fire hazard in Northwestern Ontario is now moderate to high.
Ministry of Natural Resources Information Officer Debbie MacLean says there are currently 22 fires in the area.
MacLean says one blaze is Dryden Fire 41.
It’s a monitored lightning caused fire, located about 13 kilometers south of Vermilion Bay, on an island on Eagle Lake.
She says the one thing about these types of fires in the area, is that they restore the natural island ecosystems.
Similar fires are also burning on Lake of the Woods and Lac Seul.
MacLean says the seasonal total in the Northwest Region to date is now 521 fires covering an area of over 93,000.
