It was one of the busiest days on record Tuesday for Ministry of Natural Resources fire crews.
The MNR recorded over 7,100 lightning strikes in a 24-hour period.
27 new fires sparked and more are expected early today. (Wednesday).
13 fires were reported in the Red Lake District, 11 in the Sioux Lookout District and 10 near Deer Lake First Nation.
There are currently 51-forest fires burning in Northwestern Ontario, 24-of which are not under control.
Several fires burning in the far North is causing smoke to be visible in communities downwind of the forest fires.
The forest fire hazard remains high to extreme.
