Forest Fire Season Quiet for Second Straight Year

Another quiet forest fire season!
The 2009 campaign has concluded with 194 fires reported.
The flames consumed roughly 13,930 hectares of land.
Last year, 218-fires were reported, but only 1,215 hectares of forest burned.
Although the Ministry of Natural Resources had little work here, the agency was extremely busy fighting fires in B.C.
Information Officer Debbie MacLean says despite back-to-back years of little activity, the MNR won’t be making any changes to its fire fighting plan.
