The Ministry of Natural Resources says the 114-active fires burning in Northwestern Ontario have consumed 550,000 hectares of land.
That’s the same size of the Province of Prince Edward Island.
One fire of note is Sioux Lookout Fire #70 near the Musselwhite Mine which is 4.5-times the size of Thunder Bay.
Over 2,000 personnel are battling the wildfires.
640-firefighters from B.C., Alberta, Quebec, Yukon, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick as well as personnel from Parks Canada are assisting in efforts.
There were 11-new forest fires over the weekend in Northwestern Ontario.
Meantime, evacuated residents from remote communities in Northwestern Ontario could be returning home soon.
The province is putting together plans to start returning people who were displaced by raging forest fires in the North.
Almost 3,600 people have been evacuated since the end of June.
