Forestry and Other Issues Highlight Campaign

Forestry is on the minds of the Kenora-Rainy River Provincial candidates today.
Conservative Rod McKay says the Government needs to sit down with Northern First Nations to get them involved in the transformation of the forest industry.
McKay says his party would also make changes to the wood tenure system.
Sarah Campbell of the NDP says her party would also make changes to the forest tenure system if elected.
Campbell says all of the Mills in place now would be able to keep their rights.
However, Campbell says if they do close, the community would be able to retain the rights.
The Liberal candidate says Government investment has helped turn around the ailing forest sector.
Anthony Leek says his party wants to ensure forestry jobs remain here.
Leek notes that will lead to significant job growth in other areas.
The other two candidates in the Riding are concentrating on other issues.
Green candidate Jo Jo Holiday says the Government needs to pay attention to Northwestern Ontario.
Holiday says the North has the highest rate of mental health issues and fetal alcohol syndrome.
Holiday notes the Government has band-aided these issues.
The Northern Heritage Party candidate says more investment is needed in Northwestern Ontario.
Charmaine Romaniuk says we can get an economic increase through the development of our resources.
