Grassy Narrows First Nation is fighting the provincial government in court to save forests within their traditional lands.
Simon Fobister is the chief of Grassy Narrows and says clear cutting can prevent growth in forests, and if it’s not done right then the soil will no longer produce trees.
The case is in the Ontario Court of Appeals after a lower court ruled that forestry on traditional lands infringed on aboriginal and treaty rights.
The government of Ontario, the Government of Canada, and Resolute Forest Products are appealing the decision.
