The head of the union representing forestry workers in Canada has kicked off a campaign to put pressure on the Conservative government to do more to help struggling workers.
The campaign was launched today as several hundred workers staged a noon-hour demonstration in front of the downtown Montreal headquarters of AbitibiBowater.
Dave Coles, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada, says forestry workers are now taking their campaign to the streets.
He later told reporters that actions targeting cabinet ministers are planned next week in a number of cities, while a big demonstration is set for Ottawa on June 2.
