Former Ambassador Comments On Ottawa Shooting

A regimental funeral for a young soldier killed while standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa will be held Tuesday in Hamilton.
The funeral for 24-year-old Corporal Nathan Cirillo is by invitation only at the request of family.
Former Canadian Ambassador to the United States Frank McKenna says he found the shooting especially upsetting considering it happened at Parliament Hill.
McKenna calls it an attack on the hall of democracy as well as the country.
He says Canada lost a great young man with lot’s of promise.
McKenna says he hopes and prays that it’s not part of a larger event and he doesn’t believe it is.
He notes the best way to pay tribute to Corporal Cirillo is to rally around the country.
McKenna says over history Canada has experienced terrorism but he says the larger view is we are a peaceful country so last week’s attack was not typical of our character.
