Former Northern Ontario Priest Facing Lawsuit

A former northwestern Ontario boy scout leader and priest who has already been convicted on historic sexual assault charges is facing a class action lawsuit.

The claim on behalf of some of the victims of Ralph Rowe seeks $110-million in damages for negligence, breach of duty and liability from Rowe, Scouts Canada and the Synod of the Diocese of Keewatin.

The accusations against Rowe involve incidents that took place between 1973 and 1986 on the First Nations communities of Fort Severn, Big Trout Lake, Wunnumin Lake and Kingfisher Lake.

A call to Scouts Canada and the church has yet to be returned.

No contact information for Rowe or his lawyer can be found at this time.

None of the lawsuit’s claims have been proven in court.
