The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has honoured a former teacher in Red Lake.
Jeff Holmes has received the Honorary Life Member Award.
Holmes says he has spent a long time with the union, and this was a very nice way to cap his career.
Holmes became a teacher in Red Lake after obtaining his Master’s degree in music.
He taught in Red Lake from 1991 to 2003, which is when he went to go work for the Ontario Teachers Federation.
Holmes is now retired, and works as master official at Canadian and international swimming events.
Holmes is not the first member from Northwestern Ontario to receive the award.
Dryden’s Peter Andrusco received it a couple of years ago.
