A Junior B hockey player in Thunder Bay who struck a teenage opponent
in the throat with his stick will have to wait 3 weeks to learn his penalty.
The judge has reserved decision on Brent Irwin’s matter to July 3rd.
The 22-year-old former sijhl player pleaded guilty to assault with a
weapon after he jabbed his stick at a midget player during a pre-season
game.
The victim was taken to hospital with swelling in his neck and a likely
concussion, but there were no long-term injuries.
The Crown has asked for a suspended sentence or a conditional
discharge.
