Fort Frances Holds Tribute For Sierra Hoppe

A special tribute for the Sioux North Warriors Girls Hockey players, family and community.

The Fort Frances Muskies held an emotional ceremony before Wednesday’s game between the two teams.

The public address announcer began by stressing, “Tonight we all play for #10 Sierra Hoppe.”

The popular Warriors stand-out recently passed away suddenly.

Players had red taped sticks and fans brandished red ribbons in honour of Hoppe as that was her favourite colour.

In the pre-game tribute, the announcer stated, “We honour their daughter, sister, friend and teammate, Sierra Hoppe. The Muskie hockey community sends their deepest condolences to Matt, Jenna, Ava and everyone else who had the opportunity to know Sierra.”

He went on to say, “In times like these we feel it is important that the hockey community rallies together in order to support one another. The game of hockey, people you meet and the impact we have on one another truly demonstrates that hockey is so much more than just a game.”

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs also held a tribute for Hoppe at their last home game.

On the ice, the Muskies won 8-4.

Haylee Bouchard scored all four of the Warriors goals.
