A motion to buy the International Bridge and put it in the hands of the public has been approved by the Fort Frances council.
Last night Mayor Dan Onichuk read the motion which calls for the province or federal government to join with the State of Minnesota to purchase the bridge.
In addition, Onichuk said the tolls should be eliminated which would help boost tourism.
He added since the entire northwest would benefit, the bridge purchase should fall into the hands of both the federal and provincial-state governments.
Onichuk said it wasn’t right for the Falls and Fort shell out the money to purchase the bridge since others would reap the rewards of a toll-free crossing.
