Four Fires Considered Active In Northwest Region

It’s September 8 and nearing an end to forest fire season but the warm and dry weather has resulted in increased activity for fire crews.

There are presently four active blazes in the Northwest Region.

One is considered not under control, one is being held, one is under control and the fourth is being observed.

The latest start was yesterday on an island on Lake of the Woods, about 15-kilometres southwest of Kenora.

It poses no threat.

The fire hazard is high across the region with areas of extreme in the Red Lake sector.
