Fraser Report Looks At Sky-High Electricity Rates

A new report suggests Ontario’s high electricity prices have been caused by four or five key factors.

Kenneth Green is from the Fraser Institute and says the province’s decision to get rid of coal burning power plants and the Green Energy Plan have caused the Global Adjustment Fee on your hydro bill to increase by 70% in a span of eight years.

Green says Ontario is no longer competitive in power pricing, both within Canada, and with most competitors in the United States.

He notes between 2010-2016, electricity prices have spiked 53% in our province.

The national average is 14%.

Green says the increases have really hurt the manufacturing sector in Ontario.
