Full-Day Kindergarten Praised In Sioux Lookout

The Keewatin-Patricia District School is rolling out Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten at all area schools this September.
The program has been deemed a major success across the board, especially at Sioux Mountain School in Sioux Lookout.
Instructor Mike Lawrence says a strong relationship with fellow teacher Natalie Northway has helped improve student achievement.
Lawrence came over after spending time as a daycare worker and stresses he’s seen a major difference in the development of children.
18-kids are enrolled in the program.
Northway says they use interactive and engaging teaching to gain and maintain kids interest in reading.
She says roughly 95% of students are reading at a 4 to 5 level by the end of the year and some go even higher.
