Garry Wayne Romas
1956 – 2016
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Garry Romas, in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Centre on April 1, 2016 at the age of 59.
Garry was born in Winnipeg, on September 30, 1956 and was the 4th child of Joe & Marg Romas. He attended Albert Street School & Dryden High School.
Being from a large family, there was always something going on and usually Garry was right in the middle of it. As a child the family was always camping, fishing, hunting and Garry loved the outdoors. This carried on into his adult life, which we will always have beautiful memories.
Garry first worked at the Dryden arena and this is where he met his future wife Christine. He then went into the printing trade and became a journeyman printer until an injury to his hand prevented him from working on the presses.
After re-training Garry got his Weather Reporting and then added to that an Airport Attendant. He worked at the Dryden Airport until he was laid off, than on to the Fort Frances Airport. Garry returned to Dryden in 2010 and worked briefly at B & M doing snow removal. Than he finally found his and I quote him “Fun Retirement Job”, he started driving cab for George’s Taxi on night shift. He really loved his taxi job and enjoyed the people he was working with.
He is survived by his wife; Christine, daughter Mindy (Gary) Mitchell, brothers; Jim (Helen), Don (Kim), Gord, Roger (Robin), sister Patricia (Gord) Hyatt, in-laws Fred & Muriel Erickson, sisters-in-law Elaine (Dwight) Elmer and Kisa (Paran) Erickson Singham. He is predeceased by his father Joe in 2011 and his mother Marg in 2016.
There will be no Visitation as cremation has taken place.
A Graveside Service will be held on at a later date.
Interment of ashes will be at a later date.
