Residents of Beardmore, about 160 km NE of Thunder Bay, were shaken by a huge gas pipeline explosion just before midnight last night.
There were no injuries, although numerous residents were asked to leave their homes for several hours while local volunteer firefighters assessed the situation.
Highway 11, the northern portion of the Trans Canada,was closed until about 8 this morning while gas crews and fire fighters brought the fire under control and turned off the gas.
Officials say it could be several days before the cause of the blast is known, but foul play is not suspected.
