For the first time in recent memory, the cost to feed a family of four in northwestern Ontario has actually gone down.
The Northwestern Health Unit has released the results of its Healthy Foodbasket Survey and it shows in 2014, it cost about $982 to purchase all the items on an average shopping list.
That’s down from $995 last year.
The Health Unit still points out the high cost of eating healthy in the north means parents are still having to make difficult decisions about buying nutritious food or paying rent.
