Golfer almost struck by lightning

A golfer had a close call with lightning on the Kitchen Creek Golf Course (west of Fort Frances) yesterday during a thunderstorm.

Golf club officials say a lightning bolt struck very close to where Tom Fry and his three golfing buddies were standing at the 4th green.

The shock of the nearby strike reportedly went through Fry’s putter and through his body, knocking him to the ground and blowing a hat off his head.

Fry is in hospital with second degree burns to his arm and two others in the golfing party were taken to hospital for observation.

Golf club officials did sound the horns to bring everyone in off the course but some, including Fry’s party, ventured back out believing the storm had passed.
