Ontario Deputy Premier Deb Matthews says she’s not about to re-negotiate a deal with doctors.
The province has cut fees by another 1.3%, on top of a 2.6% reduction back in February.
Matthews says a third party report indicates the Ontario Medical Association should accept the deal that’s currently on the table.
She notes they negotiations lasted over a year and the OMA rejected the offer.
Matthews says Ontario doctors are still the best paid in Canada, with an average yearly salary of over $360,000.
The opposition at Queen’s Park says the government is jeopardizing the health care system by cutting doctors fees, and forcing some to either retire early or leave the province altogether.
