The provincial government has launched a review of its school closure policy following numerous concerns and complaints about the current system.
Education Minister Mitzi Hunter says while the review takes place, school boards won’t be able to initiate any new school reviews.
The only exception will be unless the review leads to joint-use facilities or is done for student safety.
Hunter says she has heard that they need a stronger process for school boards, including greater communication and more options.
She adds the current rules don’t give local officials enough time to make an informed decision.
