Problems with the quality of water on Kashechewan First Nation is not
an isolated incident according to the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation.
A 2-year-old boil water advisory coupled with high E-Coli levels has
created a crisis situation on the James Bay area Reserve.
Grand Chief Stan Beardy says half of NAN’s 49 First Nation Communities are under
boil water advisories due to E-Coli contamination.
Beardy notes Northern Communities are defenseless to the increasing
health risks.
He says the Feds have ignored their plea until now and notes a
long-term solution is needed to protect area First Nations.
In the Sioux Lookout District alone, Beardy says 54% of NAN
First Nations are under boil-water notices.
