Kenora Forest Products is getting a grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to look at the concept of developing a bio-mass energy plant.
The $25,000 grant will be used to conduct a feasibility study for not only an alternate energy source, but also a wood pellet production facility.
The Mill has been shut down for the past 2-years due to poor markets for lumber.
The company has also been waiting for the Provincial Government to announce details of the community forestry licence for the Whiskey Jack Forest, which would give the mill better access to wood.
