Grants For Community Engagement In The Region

The Ontario Trillium Foundation is investing in 16 not-for-profit and charitable organizations in Northwestern Ontario.
Here at home, 25 thousand dollars will be granted over one year to purchase sound and lighting equipment for performing arts events.

Aguasabon Golf Club
$52,800 over one year to purchase a fairway mower to groom and maintain this community-run golf course. This will improve the quality of the course, helping to retain volunteers and attract new members in the Terrace Bay area to this healthy form of active recreation.

Avila Music School
$15,400 over one year to establish a music lending library in Thunder Bay. This will help ensure accessible and affordable music is available for musicians, teachers, students and communities of northwestern Ontario.
Canadian Red Cross Society, Thunder Bay and District Branch
$65,500 over one year to purchase shipping containers and a vehicle. The equipment will help the local Red Cross Disaster Management Team respond quickly and efficiently to disasters in northwestern Ontario.

EcoSuperior Environmental Programs
$93,600 over one year to start developing a resource centre that showcases environmentally-conscious design for green living in Thunder Bay. It will provide a place for residents in the region to see eco-friendly products and practices in use for home and office settings.

Evergreen a United Neighbourhood
$76,200 over one year to renovate an existing Thunder Bay facility into a community gathering space. The building and the local park will serve as a neighborhood hub that provides a variety of programs and services for children and youth at risk and their families.

Geraldton Nordic Ski Club
$6,300 over one year to purchase ski equipment that will be available for rent in the Greenstone area. The equipment will help encourage families and people of all ages to participate in the healthy and active sport of Nordic skiing.

Lappe Nordic Ski Club
$15,000 over six months to purchase photo finish timing equipment for hosting local, provincial, national and international cross-country ski racing events. This equipment will assist the Club in hosting the World Junior & Under 23 Trials, and an Ontario Cup Race to be held in Thunder Bay in January 2013.

Leadership Thunder Bay, as lead organization on this collaborative
$43,000 over one year to develop an Aboriginal youth leadership program for youth aged 16 to 25 in Thunder Bay. It will feature a curriculum based on Aboriginal traditions and values within a leadership framework.

Nibinamik First Nation
$73,500 over one year to purchase equipment and hire professional artists to deliver a youth media outreach project, which will train youth aged 9 to 16 in media arts. Participants will learn skills to work collaboratively on music and video projects that will help engage the community in language and culture revitalization.

Pioneer Club Atikokan
$10,000 over six months to assist in the purchase of a handi-transit vehicle, which will provide accessible transportation for older adults and people with disabilities in the Atikokan area.

Superior Cross Country Ski Club
$14,000 over one year to purchase grooming equipment to maintain eight kilometres of ski trails in the Terrace Bay-Schreiber area. Well-maintained trails will help encourage people of all ages to participate in the healthy and active sport of Nordic skiing.

Town of Marathon, as lead organization on this collaborative
$75,000 over one year to purchase digital projection equipment for use in the theatre and cultural centre located in the recreation complex. This will enable continued operation of the theatre and increased cultural, artistic and historical programming for the community.

Township of Emo, as lead organization on this collaborative
$46,600 over one year to install a wheelchair lift in the Public Library. This will help provide access to both the lower and upper levels of the library for people of all ages and abilities.

Township of O’Connor
$27,200 over one year to purchase and install new kitchen equipment and exhaust system in the community centre. This will assist in providing a safer and well-maintained facility to offer programs and services to people of all ages in this small rural community.

Wauzhushk Onigum Nation
$14,600 over one year to purchase tables, chairs and outdoor sound equipment for the youth and elder centre in the community. The equipment will assist in providing cultural, recreational and social programs and activities for people of all ages.
