Grass Fire In Balmertown

A large grass fire continues to burn in the Balmertown area.

The blaze has been burning for a couple of hours in the Balmer Creek area and prompted a quick and aggressive air and ground attack.

As of 2:00 pm the fire was listed at 6.5 hectares in size.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is assisting Red Lake Municipal Fire crews with 2 crews, a Tanker and a Bird Dog.

Reports to the CKDR Newsroom indicate there is heavy activity near the mine site and the fire is burning close to the Number 3 shaft at the Evolution Mine.

There is heavy smoke in the area but no reported threat to property or the public.

An update from the Municipality of Red Lake says the MNRF and fire crews hope to have the blaze extinguished soon.
