For the second time this year Grassy Narrows will be front and center in a Supreme Court of Canada Hearing.
On Monday, lawyers for Clifford Kokopenace will be making the case for increased representation of aboriginal people on jury rolls.
Kokopenace was convicted of manslaughter in 2008 but he was later granted a new trial because of the jury issue.
In a statement of claim to the Supreme Court, Kokopenace’s lawyer says only 4% of the jury roll in 2008 was made up of first nation residents, while the aboriginal population is estimatated to be
between 30% and 36%
Kokopenace claims that the mis-representation on jury rolls is a violation of his charter of rights and freedoms.
