Grassy Narrows Meets In Toronto This Week With Province and Feds

Grassy Narrows First Nation is pushing for a medical center in their community to treat the effects of mercury poisoning.

Chief Simon Fobister is in Toronto this week to meet with federal and provincial cabinet ministers to discuss the proposal.

Minister of Indiginous Relations and Reconciliation David Zimmer confirms the treatment center will form part of their discussions.

“We are deeply concerned about this issue. That is why this meeting has been arranged with the provincial government, the federal government, the federal cabinet minister is coming down, Minister Philpott. I know this subject matter the member has raised is on the agenda.”

NDP Critic Peter Tabuns says the Japanese government established a treatment center for people suffering from mercury poisoning and wants the provincial government to follow suit.
