Grassy Narrows River Run takes place in Toronto

Thousands of people took to the streets of Toronto this afternoon as part of the annual River Run.

The protest is to help Grassy Narrows seek more compensation from the federal and provincial governments for mercury contamination on the Engish/Wabigoon River system.

A bus load of Grassy residents drove down to Toronto to take part, and a number of environment and labour groups also were involved.

Grassy has issued a slate of demands including the closure of the Dryden Paper mill.

They also want Grassy Narrows to be fairly compensated for the mercury contamination, end industrial threats to Grassy like mining and forest, and support Grassy Narrow in its effort to restore it’s way of life.
