The Dryden Mission’s Harvest of Love Fundraiser is being deemed a true success.
Executive Director Pastor Jim Shearer says proceeds from the Saturday event will go to help construct a cafe at the mission.
The money brought in through the cafe will then go to the creation of a men’s shelter.
Shearer says it’s great to see so many people who are supportive of the Mission and want to help others.
Over the past 5-weeks, the Mission has received donations towards to help with the projects, and Shearer says their goal is $25,000.
Right now they are at about $7,000 following the ticket sales from the Harvest of Love fundraiser.
Shearer says they want to be able to build the kitchen for the cafe next summer, and then would work on completing the men’s shelter for 2015.
For the past 3-years, the Dryden Mission has helped men who find themselves out of their homes by putting them up in hotel/motel rooms which is covered by the Mission.
Last winter, between 50-70 men were put up in hotel/motel rooms.
Shearer says it will be so much more beneficial to have a shelter because it will allow them to help the men find jobs, find a permanent home and feel much better about themselves.
