The environmental group Greenpeace is joining a growing list of
groups opposed to Abitibi-Consolidated’s logging practises.
Last week, Greenpeace staged a demonstration at the Company’s
head office in Montreal.
Spokesperson Kristy Ferguson says they support the efforts of Grassy
Narrows First Nation, which has blockaded a forest access road near Kenora.
Abitibi has the cutting rights to the Whiskey Jack Forest, north of
Kenora, but the province is looking to re-assign the license to another
company later this summer.
