Greg Rickford Addresses Flooding And Cabinet

The flooding in the northwest region isn’t going unnoticed by the provincial government.

That’s the assertion of the newly elected MPP for Kenora-Rainy River.

Greg Rickford says they are currently monitoring the damage in the region.

He says, “I don’t think we know the extent of the damage yet. Water levels are still on the rise. People of Kenora-Rainy River know that I and my ministries have been paying careful attention to them as has the whole of government.”

Rickford adds, “Responsibility to make an assessment of what’s happening, what potentially could happen, and ensure first and foremost the safety of the residents of the residents of the Kenora-Rainy River riding.”

Almost all of the communities and several first nations have already declared a state of emergency because of flooding.

Meantime, Rickford isn’t speculating on if he’ll get back into cabinet.

He stresses his priority will always be the riding.

“I just can’t speculate on cabinet, just won’t,” says Rickford.

“I’ll just simply say that I think that it’s a very special responsibility, one that I’ve had federally and provincially and at every turn have tried to leverage for the benefit of the people here in Kenora-Rainy River.”

At dissolution, Rickford was the Minister of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry as well as the Indigenous Affairs minister.
