Groundhog Day Winter Predictions

It’s Groundhog Day.

But a Lakehead University professor says it’s not very reliable for telling if we’re going to have a short or long winter.

Dr. Michael Rennie and his students recently studied the accuracy of Groundhog Day predictions.

They determined that flipping a coin does as good a job as predicting the arrival of spring as these furry rodents.

Dr. Rennie found that the predictions of groundhogs were just 50%.

Canada’s two most famous weather prognosticators, Wiarton Willie and Shubenacadie Sam are split on whether we’ll have an early spring.

Willie says yes, Sam says no.
