Gus Querel

In memory of Gus Querel, who passed away peacefully with his son by his side, at his home in Vermilion Bay, on Tuesday, November Sth, 2011 at the age of 91.

Gus is survived by his son Philip and grandson, Tobin, brothers, Michael (Lucille) Querel, Denis (Rita) Querel, sister-in-law, Jeannine Hanson, brother-in-law, Gilbert Champagne, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gus was predeceased by his wife, Marie, brother, Gaston Querel, sister-in-law, Therese Querel and brother-in-law, Dale Hanson.

Having a passion for and a love for the forest industry, Gus spent his career in a variety of job settings. Gus worked in Woodridge, Manitoba, Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan and in 1954 he moved his young family to Vermilion Bay, Ontario where he owned and operated a saw mill in the Perrault Falls area. For numerous years, Gus contributed to the operations of Querel Gravel and Lumber located near Ear Falls as a wood scaler. Having retired in 2006, Gus worked well into his mid-eighties!

Gus will be remembered as a person who loved to visit with others and talk about the “good ol’ days” in the forest industry, reminiscing about the work and the people he had met along the journey. He loved picking blueberries, enjoyed fishing for walleye, purchasing that elusive winning lottery ticket, and most importantly visiting with his grandson, Tobin.

A Funeral Mass for Gus Querel will be held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Church, Dryden, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Al Campeau officiating. Interment of ashes will be held at Green Acres in Winnipeg at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Machin Medical Clinic through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Truck Avenue, Dryden, ON PSN 2X3.
