H5N1 Death In Canada

No one in northwestern Ontario should be concerned following the first confirmed death from the bird flu.
The country’s Chief Public Health Officer says a person has died from the bird flu in Alberta.
Gregory Taylor says that this is the first time someone has died from the H5N1 flu strain in North America.
Taylor stresses that it’s an isolated case and there’s nothing to worry about.
He notes there are no reports of human to human transmission with this case as nobody who came in contact with the victim has developed any symptoms.
Taylor says the patient contracted the virus while travelling in Beijing, China.
Federal Health Minister Rona Ambrose says the case of H5N1 is in no way related to the seasonal flu that has gripped much of the region and the country.
There have been several confirmed cases of H1N1 in our area but no reported cases in Dryden.
There have been three deaths from H1N1 in the Thunder Bay District.
All three were under the age of 65.
