Halloween Safety Tips

This is the night all sorts of strange and spooky things can happen.

‘Pumpkin Patrol’ consisting of the Dryden Police Service, OPP, Bell Canada and the Amateur Radio Club will be patrolling the streets ensuring everyone has a safe Halloween.

Constable Denise Szachury is asking motorists to slow down and drive with extra caution.

She stresses when kids get excited, they tend to forget about the safety rules.

Szachury is promoting defensive driving and is urging folks to check their blind spots.

For young trick or treaters, you should never go out alone or go inside a strangers home.

Szachury recommends kids wear a light, coloured costume with reflective tape so motorists can see you better and notes make-up is better than a mask.

She adds if you are wearing a long costume you should walk and not run as well as stay clear of pumpkins with candles inside.

A reminder to Dryden-area residents, the emergency siren will sound at 6 and 8 to signal the start and finish of Halloween.
