NDP Leader Howard Hampton wants the Province to give truckers a break.
The Kenora Rainy River MPP has written an open letter to the MInister of Transportation calling on him to exempt drivers operating on winter ice roads from driving time restrictions.
He says applying the same rules to truckers on regular highways & the ice roads is not fair as the winter conditions are much different.
Hampton says the rigs often travel well below the highway speed limit & there are no rest stops or places for them to safely pull over.
The OPP says until ordered otherwise they will apply the driving time regulations no matter where the drivers operate.
