Boating is a favourite past-time for northerners, especially now that another long weekend has arrived.
However, Canada sees about an average of 120 boating fatalities a year.
President of BOATsmart Canada Cameron Taylor says that most of those fatalities are preventable.
Taylor says you need a Boat Smart operator card and failing to do so will carry a minimum $250 fine.
Taylor says two primary factors in boating fatalities is not wearing a life jacket and drinking alcohol.
More than 66% our population hits the water every year.
However, over the past two decades there have been more than 10,000 accidental drowning’s in Canada.
