Huge gaps exist when it comes to the health care granted to aboriginal children versus other Canadian kids.
That’s the finding of a UNICEF report released today.
The infant mortality rate for aboriginal communities is much higher than others, far fewer children receive immunization than others and one in four aboriginal children live in poverty.
UNICEF Canada president Nigel Fisher says is astounding how Canada treats some groups of its citizens.
Fisher says Canadians need to get involved.
The report, titled “Aboriginal Children’s Health: Leaving No Child Behind,” was produced to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of a Child.
